Kahlia decided to go for a walk. She soon found herself out by the lake. She lay on her stomach & thought.
Why is it that in this place I never feel as though I have anyone to talk to? No one to turn to? It's not exactly like I'm the quietest girl am I? I just appear really shy. That's probably why I find it so hard making friends.
She'd never felt as though she had true friends at this school. She'd quite gotten used to her own company on a regular basis. But staring across the lake she felt her eyes heat up. What she would give for a few friends. What she would give to become less shy, & have an easier time making friends. She continued thinking as the first tear ran down her pale cheek.

Brendan walked casually along the lake with his hands in his pockets and his tie loose. The day was cloudy and unplesant. It looked as though it was going to pelt down rain sooner rather than later. The ground was soft and sludgy. He looked around and saw a very attrative girl lying on the grass.
Why on earth would someone be lying on the ground if it was lke this?
He walked over to her and stared at her face.
"What cha doing down there?" He asked curiously.

Kahlia looked up to see a boy she'd never spoken to looking down at her.
"Oh, hi..." She said. "I was just... thinking"
She kept blinking as if to make the tears stop & then sat up to look up at the boy.

Brendan raised his eyebrows. Thinking was something Brendan didn't do alot of.
"Riiiiight. Well why are you thinking on this ground. It's all muddy?" He asked.

Kahlia was a little lost for words at this.
"I...I don't know. I guess I just like staring across the lake. It helps me think." she mumbled.

The wind started to pick up and leaves were blowing everywhere. Brendan was about to leave but the wind started to blow harder making walking nearly impossible. He decided he would stay with the thinker. He sat on a large rock that was sitting next to the girl. After a while of twiddling his thumbs Brendan needed to stretch his feet, but as he did so he accidently kicked the girl in the face, smearing mud and grass from his shoe onto her clean face. Brendan looked down and saw what he had done. He thought it was hillarious but tryed not to show any expression on his face apart from remorse.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it I- I was just stretching my legs." He said apologetically.

Kahlia felt it a little weird but this made her laugh. For some reason she just cracked up.
"It's okay." she said smiling & shaking her head at the boy. She laughed again. "Well at least that cheered me up anyhow, even if I do have a face covered in dirt!"

Brendan smiled back at the girl. This wasn't the reaction he thought he would get. Getting kicked in the face and getting mud all over wasn't something Brendan would be laughing at but he was greatful that she was laughing not crying.
"Ok. That wasn't the reaction I was expecting but it's good all the same. Here I'll help you get the dirt off. "
And with saying that, Brendan picked up a leaf off the ground with even more mud on it and started wiping her face. He didn't realize that the leaf was covered in mud or had a large, green caterpillar on one side. This of course rubbed onto her face and made more of a mess. He realized what he had done and started to laugh histerically.

Kahlia watched him laughing.
"You just made that worse didn't you? Honestly soon I'm gonna be so covered in mud that it'll never come off!!! Oh well at least it washes off eh? It's called mood swings, you'd never believe how quickly my moods can change!"
No matter how much mud she had on her face she didn't really want to leave, this was the closest thing she'd had to a friend in a while... "I should probably go back & wash this off my face ey?" she said.

Brendan shook his head.
"It's ok I'll just go over and get some water from the lake. Are you going to come? It might be a bit hard getting water from there to here." He asked curiously.
Brendan didn't wait for an answer. He grabbed her hand and started pulling her towards the lake.
"It's going to be ok. I'll get it off, you watch."

Kahlia smiled at the boy holding her hand & taking her over to the lake. She couldn't help but wonder Am I finally getting through my shyness? Am I actually going to finally have a friend?
They reached the lake & she realised something. "Hey, I don't even know your name yet!!"

As Brendan reached the lake he turned to the girl and said "Brendan."
He walked over into the shallows and stood there, dragging the girl with him. He bent over and started to fill his hands with water and then throwing it at her. It wasn't working that great so he grabbed her hand again and pulled her in deeper into the water. They were about chest deep and Brendan repeated his actions, filling his hands with water and throwing it onto her face.
This seemed to be working much better than before. He didn't care that they were chest deep in water, on a freezing cold day. Brendan always seemed to get water on him in one way or another so he just accepted it, besides nobody important was around so he didn't care if he looked a mess. If there was a group of girls around him it would be a different story.

"I am SOAKING!! Did I seriously have to get THIS wet just so you could get the mud off my face??" She asked, a little annoyed.
Boys, she thought.
She wondered how she'd ever get dry, she began shiverring as the water was so freezing cold.

Brendan stopped straight away as he heard the girl yell. His face went blank and his eyes started to fill and it wasn't the strong wind that was causing it either.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it, I was just trying to be nice. Don't yell at me, I have feelings you know." He said, breaking down into a pool of tears.
And with that he ran out of the Black Lake and over to the trees.

Tim was standing behind one of the largest trees near the lake. He was in histerics. He could hardly breath, Brendan was making an arse out of himself and it was the funniest thing Tim had seen in a long time.
Tim had watched the whole thing from the moment Brendan had left the spot under the tree to talk to the girl to the time he had run out of the lake crying.
As Brendan came over to the trees Tim took his hand and wacked him on the back, manly. Tim was still laughing when he said: "That was friggin hilarious, and the tears - man that was great."
